“The Eighteenth Floor”, Honorable Mention, Best Horror of the Year Volume 1 (2008)

August 5, 2011 in General Topics

Holy crap. How did I miss this? Apparently last year none other than Ellen Datlow included my tale “The Eighteenth Floor” (Something Wicked SF & Horror Magazine #8) in the Honorable Mention list for the anthology “Best Horror of the Year, Volume 1”, for stories published in 2008.

Thank you, Mrs. Datlow. I doubt you’ll ever read this, but I deeply appreciate such an honor.

How about the number 50?

Doing some math today with my fiction, I discovered I’ve written over fifty short stories since starting writing seriously back in my twenties. That is quite awesome. And a little bit obsessive.

“The Encroacher” and other goings-on

September 16, 2010 in General Topics

So my novel The Tyrant Stratagem is out in the wild right now seeking an agent. Coming in at 87,000 words, the final draft was finished a few weeks back. I revised the tale about four times. With an outline in place for the other two volumes in the tale, I’m confident the piece will make someone happy, if only someone out there decides to get behind it. I’m shopping it around right now. To quote the executives in “There Will be Blood”: “We’ll make you rich.”

In belated news, let me direct you over to Variant Frequencies again, where you may or may not have been lately, to tell you that my tale “The Encroacher” had the distinction of being the last episode they’ve run (for now). I sincerely hope Rick and the gang get back into podcast fiction at some point. They have my deepest respect and appreciation for being some of the earliest people to run my work.

Let me also congratulate Norm Sherman and the team over at The Drabblecast for picking up a Parsec award for 2010. This is only about three years overdue.

Read “The Eighteenth Floor”, in Something Wicked, Issue 8

October 16, 2008 in General Topics

I’m pleased as all get out to inform you “The Eighteenth Floor” is running in this month’s issue of Something Wicked, South Africa’s horror magazine du jour. I promise you a creeping, steadily escalating sense of dread in this piece, and in more ways than one!

Hop on over there and pick up a copy October 23rd, then kick back, turn the lights down, and crack this baby open on Halloween night. You’ll be supporting one hell of a fine magazine. Joe Vaz and Vianne Venter have been a pleasure to work with, and I do hope to have the opportunity to do so again in the future.

As always, your comments and criticisms are valued and welcome.

Snazzy Dual Story Acceptances!

June 7, 2008 in General Topics

I’m back from my vacation. It was good, and very needed with some of the stress I’ve been under lately.

Remember when I said this, in last week’s post?

Vacations have been interesting events for me as far as writing in goes. In each of the past two vacations I took, I came back to find acceptances in my inbox. I’m hoping lightning strikes thrice and I can snag another one over this trip.

Well, I must be burned to a cinder, because lightning did strike thrice. In fact, I got a double-jolt in this particular blast.

I’m pleased to announce that Murky Depths has taken “Best in Class” for their upcoming issue #6, December 2008. “Best in Class” is a dark science fiction tale of a prized collector’s car whose AI struggles to understand stark circumstances it has been thrust into. Murky Depths ran “Paston, Kentucky”, another tale of mine, for their very first issue, and it’s a pleasure to do business with them again.

In equally exciting developments, Something Wicked, a horror magazine operating out of South Africa, has taken “The Eighteenth Floor” for publication, details to be provided to me in the near future. I am thrilled to see this piece finally get its due. Every author has those extremely rare stories that they think they fired on all cylinders with — this is one of them. When this horror piece hits their pages, my fiction will have graced its third continent.

My sincerest thanks to those that have read my stories, and whom continue to read them. And I’d like to thank both these fine publications for running my work. It is my pleasure and honor.
